Robotic Shoppers To Help Elderly 07.02.2010
The robots are coming!
Newly developed store robots designed to help elderly people do their grocery shopping is the latest
invention, and of course, the Japanese are behind it this time as well.
This marvelous invention called Robovie-II is currently being tested in supermarkets in Japan, where
it's job is to help the elderly and disabled to get their shopping done.

This child sized robot, developed by Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International(ATR)
will help whoever it is going with find it's items based on a premade shoppinglist the shopper
has made on a mobile device before he or she left for the store.
Upon arrival at the designated store, the robots sensors pick up the mobile device and the
list is automatically uploaded to the robot, which then follows the user to it's items.
It is also helping carrying the items in shoppingbasket.

On their way through the supermarket, the robot reminds the shopper of items on the list,
so nothing will be forgotten. It even makes recommondations on other items which are
suitable with what is on the list.

One of the 20 elderly shoppers taking part in the tesitng of the robot claimed it was
fun to shop with it.
These tests will go on until march 2010.

Do I sense SkyNet coming?
