Norwegian Court Rejects Bid To block The Pirate Bay 10.02.2010
The record industry's war against illegal filesharing faces another setback as the Norwegian court of appeal rejects
their appeal against telecoms operator Telenor for refusing to block access to one of the largest filesharing
sites on the net.
According to the court ruling, it is currently impossible to do this under Norwegian law.
Norwegian record company association rages as Telenor blows off this attempt to get The Pirate Bay blocked
as censorship.
A statement from Telenors spokesperson, Atle Lessum, claims that "You cannot sue a ladde manufacturer because
someone used one of his ladders to commit burgulary.", adding on to this he also said "We therefore reject imposed
censorship like this."
Seems like Telenor has their head in the right place at least.
However, as Norwegian intellectual property laws aren't based on the technology which is found today,
the Norwegian government has announced that it will review it's intellectual property law.
The Pirate ship sails on for a little while longs, but I fear it's days are counted.
But no fear, pirates are inventive, and new ways of sharing without getting caught is most likely to
come up sooner or later, that is at least what history points to.
An example of this is Napster dying and torrents coming to life.
Rip the sails, ye scurvy dogs!
